Well, as I said on the original version of Pulcherrima Ignis, it just did not feel done and I had grown bored of it. However, I came back to it with new ideas and this is what spawned.

If you want to read about all the "Facts" from the original, go here to read the description - [link]

----

Pulcherrima Ignis means most beautiful fire in Latin (they are conflicting genders however as Pulcherrima is feminine and ignis is masculine, roll with it though, it's my artistic license ;))

there's a solid explosion right there, was that produced with custom brushes and textures?

Actually everything in the scene except for the asteroids (which I took from Hameed and a few I rendered myself) was done mostly with just the soft/hard round brushes. I just used a custom brush to add texture to the center star. Also, I used filters for the ring around the gas giant, but anyways, the star, explosion, other various elements and the gas giant were all painted using soft/hard round brushes for the most part.
